Some people want the whole tour; others want to know in ten seconds whether a tool is worth a closer look. This YouTube Short is for the second group.
What dbSlice is, in one paragraph
dbSlice is a data tool for the leading databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, Firebird, SQLite and InterSystems Caché/IRIS. It migrates data from one engine to another, keeps copies in sync (upsert, new rows only, update only, or incremental by a column), replicates whole sets of tables in foreign-key order and compares both sides key by key. Around that core it adds the tools teams usually buy or script separately: export to files, command-line jobs, webhooks, calls to REST APIs and messages to brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
One app, one license
Instead of one product per database, dbSlice uses the same app and the same license for every supported engine. It runs as a Windows desktop app with a command line (Desktop and Server licenses) and as the Linux Server Edition in Docker, on your own servers.
Where it fits
Typical uses are a migration from one engine to another, a copy of production kept current for reporting or QA, a period when an old and a new system run side by side, and nightly jobs that also tell other systems what changed. dbSlice runs on your own machine or server, so your data goes from your source to your target and does not pass through Thinwork; only the license check goes out to the internet.
Where to go next
- The full three-minute tour: dbSlice in 3 minutes.
- Running two systems side by side during a replacement: data coexistence.
- Speed, with the conditions behind each number: how fast is dbSlice.
The free version is on the Microsoft Store.
